Az Orosz Ötök markáns tehetségű tagja, a kémikusként is nagyhírű Alekszandr Borogyin befejezetlenül hagyta főművét, az Igor herceg című operát, amelynek szimfonikus hangversenyeken gyakran felhangzó betétszáma a szárnyaló melódiákban bővelkedő Polovec táncok. Minden idők talán legszebb, Shakespeare által halhatatlanná tett szerelmi története, a veronai szerelmesek tragikus históriája a 20. században is sokakat ihletett alkotásra. Bernstein musicalje és Nino Rota filmzenéje mellett a legismertebb feldolgozás minden bizonnyal Prokofjev zseniális balettje, amelyből a komponista három zenekari szvitet is összeállított: ezúttal az 1. és 2. szvit pompás tételeiből hallhatnak válogatást Berkes Kálmán vezényletével.

A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
