Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) a norvégok nagy nemzeti zeneszerzője 1874-ben felkérést kapott a másik nagy norvég művésztől, Henrik Ibsen drámaírótól, hogy nagy sikerű, Peer Gynt című verses filozofikus drámájához írjon kísérőzenét.
A Peer Gynt költői nyelven írt fantasztikus, mágikus elemekben bővelkedő története a férfi-létezés sajátos enciklopédiája, annak minden buktatójával és szépségével, vágyálmaival és rémlátomásaival, szárnyalásával és kisstílű hitványságával együtt. Peer útja során mindent megkap és mindent el is veszít, míg végül élete alkonyán rádöbben: egyetlen igazi menedékünk, otthonunk és királyságunk a másik ember megértése, hite, szeretete.
Grieg eleinte húzódozott a nagy kihívás elől, végül azonban nekilátott és 1876-ban elkészült a kísérőzenével, melyből később két hangverseny-szvitet állított össze.

Our offer
The German bass began his career at the opera houses of Berlin. However, when Sir Georg Solti cast him in the role of Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, René Pape’s international career almost immediately continued on the stages of the world’s greatest houses including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, Bayreuth, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances. For selected tour times, tickets are also available with the PreOpera Menu package. In addition to the guided tour of the Opera House, this option includes a themed set menu of your choice at OperaBistro, which can be enjoyed either before or after the tour.
