Esküvője előtti éjszakán a vőlegény egy pisztolylövéssel megöli menyasszonyát, mert az megcsalta a legjobb barátjával, majd végez vele is. A gyilkosságtól fölzaklatott spanyol kisvárosba útjukat megszakítva, a vihar elől menekülve, megáll Maria és családja.
