A lánya, Jessie középkorú, epilepsziás nő, elrontott házassággal és egy drogfüggő, törvénykerülő fiúval a háta mögött. Mindenből kiábrándulva az öngyilkosságban látja az egyetlen kiutat. A rémült Thelma megpróbálja meggyőzni a lányát, hogy érdemes élni. De vajon egyetlen éjszaka elegendő-e erre?
