Csáth Géza, született Brenner József, kamaszként már zenét szerzett, festett, írni kezdett. 14 éves, mikor megjelenik első zenekritikája, és novellát küld a Jövendő című folyóirat főszerkesztőjének, Bródy Sándornak. A 20. század fordulóján fejlődésnek indult Szabadkán nevelkedett, de Pestre vágyott. Apja intelmét megfogadva, a biztos megélhetés érdekében orvosnak tanult. Az egyetem mellett rendíthetetlenül írt, a Budapesti Naplóban publikált, alapításától tagja volt a Nyugatnak. Az elsők között mélyült el Freud tanaiban, a pszichoanalízist értőn használta orvosi pályája során. Egész életében kifejezetten rettegett a halálos kóroktól, melyekkel már fiatalon találkozott: öt éves volt, mikor édesanyja, tizenhat, mikor kishúga meghalt. Mikor tévesen tüdőbajt diagnosztizáltak nála, beadta magának az első adag morfiumot – és kezdetét vette az önként vállalt harc a démonokkal, melyben végül alul maradt: fiatalon, a morfium tébolyában lelőtte feleségét, majd véget vetett életének. Csáth életműve hol eltűnik, hol visszatér az irodalmi köztudatba. Az előadás eredeti levelekkel, naplóbejegyzésekkel, valamint Csáth irodalmi műveivel és zenéivel próbálja megidézni a nagyszerű polihisztor máig ható zsenijét.
