A gólyakalifa
Babits Mihály 1913-ban írt regényét sokan a modern magyar próza előfutárának tartják. A szerzőt a tudathasadás problematikája foglalkoztatja, amihez Freud Az álomról c. tanulmánya szolgáltatja a tudományos alapot. A főhős, Tábory Elemér betegsége ugyanakkor nem tekinthető klasszikus személyiségzavarnak, mert másik énje álmában él, és erről az álomlétezésről neki tudata, sőt emlékezet is van. Babits valójában egy lélekhasadás tragédiáját írja meg, amikor kettéválik az ember „fényes” (az erkölcsi és etikai, a civilizált) és az árnyékszerű része (a démonikus, az ösztöni), és ettől a mentális elkárhozástól még az őrangyal szerepét helyettesítő női szereplők sem tudják megmenteni.
