Széles körű szakmai ismereteivel segítette a Magyar Nemzeti Balett munkáját, hiánya együttesünk tagjaiban nagy űrt hagyott. Emlékére évente nemzetközi balettgálaestet rendezünk, melyen a világ legjelentősebb társulatainak – Royal Ballet, Angol Nemzeti Balett, Bolsoj, Mariinszkij Színház, Párizsi Opera, Holland Nemzeti Balett – szólistái és az Opera balettegyüttesének művészei produkcióikkal együtt tisztelegnek Nagy Iván szakmai és emberi nagysága előtt. E napon adják át a Magyar Nemzeti Balett egy művészének, balettmesterének, illetve más közreműködőjének azt a Solymosi Művészeti Díjat is, amely a múlt decemberi Diótörő-sorozat legjobb táncművészének jár.
