Előadásunk Martin McDonagh fekete humorban gazdag, egyedülálló stílusához hűen próbál egyensúlyozni valóság és fikció, könnyedség és brutalitás, értelem és ösztönösség között. McDonagh – a drámaírás Tarantinója – szerint: arra vágyunk, hogy figyeljük mások szenvedéseit, sőt még nevessünk is rajta. Hiszen a Tom és Jerry rajzfilmsorozatot is szerettük már egész picike korunkban. A két ősellenség válogatott, brutális módszerekkel üti, alázza, kínozza egymást, véget nem érően, szinte egyetlen lehetséges időtöltésképp. Képzeljük el, hogy egyszer csak jönne valaki, aki arról akarná meggyőzni őket, hogy másképp is lehet élni: kibékülve, egymást támogatva, szeretetben. Tételezzük fel, hogy Tom és Jerry megpróbálná. De ki nézné meg ezt az epizódot? Én biztos, hogy nem. Aztán mégis kíváncsi lennék, hátha sikerül... Coleman és Valene házába érkezik apjuk temetése napján a masszív alkoholista Welsh atya, aki megpróbálja meggyőzni a fivéreket arról, hogy szeretet nélkül nincs értelme élni. S hogy van-e értelme „Welsh atyának lenni” egy Isten háta mögötti ír faluban vagy bárhol a világon, azt döntsék el Önök. (Mihály Péter)
