Az Alföldön a nagyháború előtti időben járunk. Esendő, szánni és szeretni való embereket látunk, akik adomák, durva tréfák, semmittevés, részeg mulatás közben fecsérlik el az életüket. Csak a főhősben van valami nagy vágy, hogy cselekedjék, de csak az asszonyokkal való szenvedélyes viaskodása látszik, és az egész világból kiábrándul.
