„Az egész úgy kezdődött, hogy 1990 tavaszán azt hittem, vége a világnak. Számomra. De minden tekintetben… És akkor Szávai Géza erőteljes mondatokkal »rázott gatyába«: hogyha mások gyógyszert, ennivalót, könyvet visznek segélyként Erdélybe − 1990 tavasza volt! −, akkor én, ahelyett, hogy tovább önsajnálnék, állítsak össze egy irodalmi estet, és induljak el vele segíteni. (…) 1995-ben egy picit átalakítottam a műsort, hiszen én is változom. Az »Uram, nem látta Magyarországot?« József Attila-sort választottam estem címéül. (…) Ha megnézik, megértik: szolgálni szeretne minden egyes nóta, vers, mese. Az összes gondolat.”

While the Fountain of Tears bubbles before him, Giray, khan of the Tatars, is lost in brooding. Just as the flow from the marble fount cannot be exhausted, his own sorrow will never diminish, either. The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances. For selected tour times, tickets are also available with the PreOpera Menu package. In addition to the guided tour of the Opera House, this option includes a themed set menu of your choice at OperaBistro, which can be enjoyed either before or after the tour.
This ballet's plot is inspired by The Corsair, a famous verse written in 1814 by Lord Byron, who towered over an entire generation of English Romantic poets.
