A férfiakat szenvedélyesen gyűlölő Turandot és a jóképű Kalaf herceg szerelmének történetét a Gozzi darabja alapján készült Puccini-operából ismerjük leginkább. Turandot, a kínai császár lánya a gondolatát sem bírja elviselni, hogy bárki birtokolja őt, ezért eléri, hogy apja törvénybe iktassa: kezét csak az kaphatja meg, aki három kérdésére helyesen megfelel. Aki a próbán elbukik, búcsút mondhat a fejének.
Carlo Gozzi 1762-ben írta Turandot című színművét a Ezeregynap meséi című perzsa elbeszélésgyűjtemény egyik története alapján. A Kínában játszódó, commedia dell’ arte elemeket is tartalmazó felnőttmese szürreális világa egy huszadik századi fiktív diktatúrában születik újjá a Radnóti színpadán.

While the Fountain of Tears bubbles before him, Giray, khan of the Tatars, is lost in brooding. Just as the flow from the marble fount cannot be exhausted, his own sorrow will never diminish, either. The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
Two giants of Baroque music meet during the Advent season in a performance by the OPERA Orchestra and Chorus. Bach’s well-known Magnificat is performed in its original version, in E-flat major, supplemented with movements specifically tailored to the festive season by the composer himself.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances. For selected tour times, tickets are also available with the PreOpera Menu package. In addition to the guided tour of the Opera House, this option includes a themed set menu of your choice at OperaBistro, which can be enjoyed either before or after the tour.
