Jóllehet Bartók 1940-ben bemutatott, vonószenekarra írott kompozíciójának címe a 18. század egyik népszerű műfajára utalva könnyed szórakoztató zenét sejtet, a derűs hangok mögött a tragikum is felsejlik – különösen is a 2. világháború előestéjén komponált darab megrázóan szép lassú tételében. A második félidőben Beethoven 1803-ban bemutatott 2. szimfóniája csendül fel, amelyet – jóllehet az életút egyik válságos pillanatában keletkezett – fiatalos lendület és kirobbanó életenergia jellemez. A koncert dirigense a fiatal magyar karmester-generáció kiváló képviselője, Hontvári Gábor lesz.

The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
Bartók Béla’s two highly influential stage works explore the dynamics of the relationship between man and woman and the deeper layers of their personalities, as presented by creators who, through a fusion of tradition and innovation, reveal the possibilities inherent in these works for 21st-century audiences.
