Piroska elindul a sűrű, sötét erdőben, hogy ennivalót vigyen beteg Nagyijának. Az éhes Farkas a nyomába ered, hogy felfalja. Csakhogy Kerekerdőben más mesék szereplői is kószálnak, akik megosztják gondjaikat Piroskával, és segítik, hogy legyőzze a kislány a különböző álruhában rejtőzködő, támadó ordast. A mese szórakoztatva segít eligazodni ifjú nézőinek, mikor bízhat a felnőttekben egy gyerek, és mikor kell gyanakodnia, hogy veszély fenyegeti.

This ballet's plot is inspired by The Corsair, a famous verse written in 1814 by Lord Byron, who towered over an entire generation of English Romantic poets.
As it is a latent Kodály season, it seems only fitting that the concert at the OPERA honouring the events of 1956 should feature works by the composer. In that same year, the short-lived Revolutionary Council of Hungarian Intellectuals elected him as its president. Throughout his entire oeuvre, Kodály consistently reinforced Hungarian national identity. The programme gains both colour and a ceremonial character from the hymn-like and dance-infused compositions of his middle and later years.
