Orgon egyik napról a másikra vallási kábulatba esik, s befogadja házába az általa szentnek tartott elszegényedett Tartuffe-öt, hogy annak életvezetése és eszméi szerint élje életét, és ezt családjára is rákényszerítse.

Tartuffe
Orgon olyannyira magához akarja láncolni az idegent, hogy lányát is hozzáadná feleségül. Tartuffe túlkapásaival és képmutatásával kiváltja az egész család ellenszenvét, ráadásul arra vetemedik, hogy elcsábítsa a ház urának feleségét. Csakhogy Orgon tanúja lesz e csalásnak. S bár ekkor leesik szemérol a hályog, túl késo: egész vagyonát Tartuffe-re iratta, aki így felülkerekedve elkergeti házából Orgont és egész családját. Hiába várjuk a jól ismert feloldást: Alföldi Róbert a darab eredeti változatához nyúl vissza, mely Tartuffe diadalával végzodött.

As it is a latent Kodály season, it seems only fitting that the concert at the OPERA honouring the events of 1956 should feature works by the composer. In that same year, the short-lived Revolutionary Council of Hungarian Intellectuals elected him as its president. Throughout his entire oeuvre, Kodály consistently reinforced Hungarian national identity. The programme gains both colour and a ceremonial character from the hymn-like and dance-infused compositions of his middle and later years.
While the Fountain of Tears bubbles before him, Giray, khan of the Tatars, is lost in brooding. Just as the flow from the marble fount cannot be exhausted, his own sorrow will never diminish, either. The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
