Concert performance in three acts, in German, with Hungarian and English surtitles

“Scandal at the singing contest” – this might be one way to summarise the plot of Wagner’s early Romantic opera, which unfolds around the theme of love in both the earthly world of 13th-century knights and the divine realm of Venus and her nymphs. The sudden shifts, contradictory moods and innovative use of interdependent motifs that can be heard in Tannhäuser, as well as the exploitation of the possibilities of the orchestra, point powerfully in the direction of the composer’s mature music dramas.
The Christian Spirit Season would not be complete without a performance of this uniquely poetic work addressing the subject of sin and redemption, in which the world-renowned German Wagnerian tenor Peter Seiffert will sing the title role on the stage of the Erkel Theatre.
