Take 6 Symphonic
Take 6, a band with more than three decades to look back on, has already enchanted the Müpa Budapest audience once, in December 2014. Over the years, this team of a cappella singers have amassed a multitude of awards and now boast no fewer than ten Grammies and ten Dove Awards, while the readers and critics of Downbeat magazine have both voted them Best Jazz Vocal Group for seven years in a row. more

And what brings this ensemble and their music such unflagging success after such a long time? The way they see it, there are four components: faith, friendliness, respect and the love of music. All of these elements of the Take 6 phenomenon are clearly evident both in concerts and on their albums.
On this occasion, they will debut in a new role for the Budapest audience: not as an a cappella ensemble, but raising the stakes even further by taking the stage accompanied by a symphony orchestra. The arrangers who scored the numbers compiled for this programme - some of them Take 6 hits selected from their 15 albums and others popular jazz classics - are among the very finest ever to have lived. They include former Take 6 member Cedric Dent, who remains a permanent honorary member of the group since retiring from the concert stage in 2011. Another is the Grammy-winning pianist, saxophonist and arranger Gordon Goodwin, who is well known from the world of big bands and has received great acclaim together with his own ensemble, the Big Phat Band. The sextet themselves, though, are certain to immerse themselves in the sea of harmonies summoned forth by the orchestra.
