Furcsa alakok verődnek össze egy kisvárosi szállodában. Egy hozományvadász úri hölgy és trükkös kínai szobalánya, egy tehetségkutatóra érkező népdalénekes – vagy bérgyilkos –, egy hölgy a lópatkó-gyűjteményével. Felbukkan egy szimpatikus fiatalember, aki azt állítja magáról, hogy rendőr, és egy vonzó ifjú hölgy is, aki nem állít semmit, csak figyel.
