Platón Szókratész védőbeszéde című műve mindig aktuális. Erény, erkölcs, érvelés és filozófia tekintetében aktuálisabb nem is lehetne. Maga Szókratész (Kr. e. 470 – Kr. e. 399) soha semmit nem írt le, nem alapított iskolát, hanem sétálva, beszélgetve vezette rá céltudatos módszerével hallgatóit az erkölcsi igazságok felismerésére. Ellenzői azzal vádolták, hogy rossz hatással van a fiatalokra.
Szókratész híres mondása volt: Gnoti se auton – Ismerd meg önmagad! Állította, hogy az igazi tudás erény, a tudatlanság gonoszság. Nála a tudás nem észbeli ismeretet jelentett, hanem jóra való képességet vagy képtelenséget. Azt hirdette, hogy a boldogság az erényben van, és a boldogtalanság a gonoszban. Az erény nem eszköz a boldogság elérésében, hanem maga a boldogság.
Szókratészt, bár nem foglalkozott politikával, az arisztokrata párt egyik szónokaként tartották számon. Athént ritkán hagyta el, de több hadjáratban is részt vett, átélte a perzsák elleni háborút, majd a Spárta elleni vereséget is. Látta, hogy a háború lezülleszti a görög társadalmat, ezért küzdött az erkölcsi megújulásért.
Az athéniak istentelenség vádjával ítélték halálra, mivel Szókratész azt állította, hogy az athéni bálványok nem istenek, hanem csak egyszerű szobrok, amelyeket emberi kéz alkotott.

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances. For selected tour times, tickets are also available with the PreOpera Menu package. In addition to the guided tour of the Opera House, this option includes a themed set menu of your choice at OperaBistro, which can be enjoyed either before or after the tour.
