Ákos Szilágyi is one of the most original figures in contemporary Hungarian intellectual life, and remains remarkably versatile as a poet, aesthete, editor, university lecturer, and researcher of Russian cultural traditions from film to iconography. The author of numerous poetry collections and volumes of essays, he has, since the very start of his career, consistently unsettled and surprised readers who may cling to traditional aesthetic principles and expectations. Rooted in the avant-garde, one of the most distinctive areas of his rich oeuvre is sound poetry, in which he brings the art of vocal verse to life in Hungary.
