Works by Hungarian Jewish composers – editor: István Gyarmati. The excellent actors: Eszter Csákányi, Eszter Bánfalvi and Béla Fesztbaum give new meaning to the songs and lyrics. The title of the evening is no accident, for few people know that this emblematic Hungarian song, which has often been used by extreme nationalists, was created by Jews. It was composed by Zsigmond Vincze and the lyrics written by Ernő Kubinyi. The ‘most Hungarian’ of operetta composers was Imre Kálmán, it is enough to recall The Csárdás Princess. Rezső Seress wrote the popular song ‘Come my dog Bodri’. Dezső Kellér also wrote in the popular song genre, for example, Nem tudom az életemet hol rontottam én el (I don’t know where I spoiled my life) and one entitled Valahol az ember mindig elhibázza
(You always make a mistake somewhere). It is also interesting to note that The Rooster is Crowing, which we know as a folk song, is owned by the Rabbi of Nagykálló. The evening is meant to entertain, but also sometimes to give food for thought. We demonstrate that the Jewish creators of the songs are Hungarians to the utmost, provided they are left to proudly profess themselves Hungarian. Here are some of the composers and writers whose work will be heard: Béla Zerkovitz, József Kozma, György G.Dénes, Iván Szenes, Lajos Lajtai, Ernő Szép, Gábor Andor, Jenő Heltai. The three contributors, who have proved their talents in many different genres, will conjure up an interesting and delightful evening.
Musical director and pianist: István Gyarmati.
