Egy átlagos New York-i napon a 86 éves Mr. Green lelép a járdáról és Ross Gardiner autója kis híján elgázolja. A büntetés hat hónapnyi társadalmi munka: heti egy, kötelező látogatás az idős úrnál – ami persze egyiküknek sincs ínyére.
A kényszeres találkozások remek helyzetkomikumra adnak lehetőséget a mogorva özvegyember és a dinamikus fiatal irodista között, miközben témává válik a család, a hagyomány, a származás, a vallás – és persze vita vitát követ.
Aztán egyre több kóser leves kerül az asztalra, egyre több levél a postaládába, és egyre több régi titok lát napvilágot…
Jeff Baron díjnyertes komédiáját 22 nyelvre fordították le, s a világ 46 országában már több, mint 500 alkalommal mutatták be. Magyarországra Székhelyi József és Pál Tamás kettőse hozza el ezt a szívhez szóló történetet.
