Charity Hope Valentine a New York-i éjszakában dolgozik - ahogyan ő fogalmaz: adakozik -, egy lepukkant lokálban táncol és vadidegen férfiakat tesz boldoggá. Szívének rejtett csücskében azonban egyetlenegy vágy él, az, hogy végre valaki őt ajándékozza meg a boldogsággal. Valaki, aki szereti, aki nem csapja be, nem csalja meg, nem lopja el a pénztárcáját, és nem használja ki. Mert Charity csak ilyen férfiakkal találkozik, és minél jobban hisz nekik, annál csúnyábban végzi. Minél nyitottabb szívvel közeledik az emberekhez, annál komikusabb helyzetekbe kerül. Aztán egy szép napon ez a szeretnivaló lány bent ragad egy liftben egy fiúval, aki végre kedves, rendes és... klausztrofóbiás. Talán most rámosolyog a szerencse. Talán most sikerül.

A darab ősbemutatójára 1966-ban került sor a Broadway-n, Bob Fosse rendezésében, akinek neve már ismerős lehet a szombathelyi közönségnek a Kabaré és a Chicago bemutatói kapcsán. A musicalben - melynek zenei világa a '30-as évek Amerikájának jazz-, swing- és spirituálé világát követi - olyan, azóta már világslágerré nőtt dalok hangzanak el, mint a Momentán vagy a Big Spender.

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances. For selected tour times, tickets are also available with the PreOpera Menu package. In addition to the guided tour of the Opera House, this option includes a themed set menu of your choice at OperaBistro, which can be enjoyed either before or after the tour.
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
