Schwajda György (1943-2010) nemzetközi hírű drámaíró és dramaturg, a színházi élet meghatározó személyisége több évtizedes alkotó tevékenységével beírta magát a magyar színháztörténetbe. Több drámát írt, darabjait leginkább a fanyar humor, a groteszk jellemzi.
„A Himnusz című abszurd dráma a szocializmusban született, de úgy gondolom, hogy társadalmi formáktól és izmusoktól függetlenül ma is a következő kérdéseket feszegeti:
- Mit ér az ember, ha melós.
- Mit ér a család, ha szegény.
- Mit ér a segítség, ha bűntet.
- Mit ér a szeretet, ha teher.
- Mit ér a társadalom, ha zsarnok.
-Mit ér a hit, ha csonka.
- Mit ér a szabadság, ha kaloda.
- Mit ér a himnusz, ha magyar.

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
