legenda, melynek számtalan változata, újraköltése ismert. Mégis elsősorban Shakespeare nevéhez fűzzük, aki utánozhatatlan szenvedéllyel formálta meg és vitte színre évszázadokkal ezelőtt saját színtársulatával a drámairodalom méltán leghíresebb alkotását, a Rómeó és Júliát.
A történet az itáliai Veronában játszódik, ahol a Montague és a Capulet családok viszálya sötét felhőként nehezedik a városra. A szerelem azonban nem ismer sem gátat, sem parancsot, s a két ifjú sarj - Rómeó és Júlia – félelmet, ellenállást leküzdve örök hűséget esküszik egymásnak. Esküjük valóban a halálig szól, ám ez sokkal korábban bekövetkezik, mintsem azt szerelmes óráikban elképzelhették.
Két ifjú szív dobogásának kell hát megszűnnie, hogy a családok gyűlölködésének helyébe a megbékélés lépjen…
