Lónyay Erzsébet sorsa – még ha fikció is – a korszak tipikus női sorsa. Tehetsége a legnagyobbak közé predesztinálná, érvényesülni mégiscsak szépségével tud. Már kicsiny gyermekkorától folyamatosan úton van, családja és pártfogói kézről kézre adják. Gyermekkori pajtásával, Ungvárnémeti Tóth Lászlóval mindig rosszkor, rossz helyen találkozik, így bontakozó szerelmük sohasem teljesedhet be, mindig plátói marad. Csak a halálban van esélyük az egyesülésre.
