A darab egy képzeletbeli magyar faluban, Irgácson játszódik, ahová egy meleg nyári napon harminc év körüli, budapesti esszéíró fiatalember érkezik. Betér a kocsmába, ahol a vidéki mikroklíma jellemző figurái élik és fogyasztják- a fröcsike mellett- sivár mindennapjaikat. Döbbenten és értetlenül fogadják a portugál naplementéről álmodozó fiút, aki melankolikus, gazdag felesége elől menekül, átutazóban álmai menedéke, Portugália felé.
