Negyed százada a Pesti Színházban volt a darab ősbemutatója, ahol Kútvölgyi Erzsébet és Hernádi Judit játszották a címszerepeket. Mészáros Márta akkor először dolgozott ezzel a zenés darabbal, amely Piaf és Dietrich alakjain túl a két nő viszonyát: barátságát, rivalizálását, viszályait is felidézi. Azóta a filmrendezőnő többször rendezte színpadra ezt a művet Európa számos pontján Csehországtól Lengyelországig.
Mészáros Márta olvasatában ez az előadás nem csupán a két ikon megidézéséről, hanem a nagybetűs Nőről fog szólni, a nőiségről, a nőiességről, ahogy Edith és Marlene idejében érezték, látták, de arról is, hogy mit jelent most a 21. század elején nőnek lenni.
