Az amnéziában szenvedő nagy írónak, Onoff-nak az írásai iránt rajongó rendőrkapitány óvatos kérdései mellett kell tisztáznia magát a gyilkosság vádja alól. Megkezdődik az egész éjszakán át tartó macska-egér harc a két elszánt férfi között, ami közben kibontakozik maga a bűntény, ahogy a felügyelő, és ahogy az író látja.
