A mű egy balladisztikus történetet dolgoz fel opera formában. Zenéjének alapja az erdélyi magyar népdalok, a barokk és a rock bizarr, mégis homogén elegye.
Pintér Béla Parasztoperájának lényege nagyon is ősi. A sorsot boncolgató archaikus történet a görög tragédiák hangulatvilágát idézi. Egy múltbeli tett a sors alakítójává válik. Egy nap, egy esküvő története, mely az emberi lényt szánalmasan vicces és felemelően tragikus voltában ábrázolja. Egyszerre szép, csúnya, felemelő, megalázó, komikus és tragikus. Tragikomikus.
