Dorkát egy forgószél Óz birodalmába repíti Toto kutyájával, ahol a jó Északi Boszorkány tudatja vele, hogy elpusztította a gonosz Keleti Boszorkányt.
Dorka megkapja Glindától a gonosz Keleti Boszorkány ezüst varázscipellőjét, ám a gonosz Nyugati Boszorkány - a gonosz Keleti Boszorkány húga -megharagszik Dorkára, és vissza akarja szerezni tőle a varázscipellőket. A Sárgaköves úton Dorka elindul Smaragdvárosba, hogy találkozzon Ózzal, a nagy varázslóval, hogy megkérje őt, repítse haza Kansas-be. Útközben találkozik a Madárijesztővel, a Bádogemberrel és a gyáva Oroszlánnal.
