Othello szíve hatalmas, tisztasága és gyöngédsége pedig nagyszerűségével és méltóságával vetekedik, de tisztánlátását megzavarja, érzékeit megtéveszti Jago, akiben a szélsőséges gonoszság az akarat és az értelem kivételes képességeivel párosul. Ezzel a dermesztő gonoszsággal csak a szerelem végtelen tűrése és megbocsátása, a női erő és tisztaság, Desdemona ártatlansága áll szemben.
A Vígszínház ezzel a bemutatóval folytatja immár hagyományteremtő Shakespeare-sorozatát. Az előadásban a társulat kiemelkedő színészei mellett a főszerepeket kiváló vendégművészek játsszák.

As it is a latent Kodály season, it seems only fitting that the concert at the OPERA honouring the events of 1956 should feature works by the composer. In that same year, the short-lived Revolutionary Council of Hungarian Intellectuals elected him as its president. Throughout his entire oeuvre, Kodály consistently reinforced Hungarian national identity. The programme gains both colour and a ceremonial character from the hymn-like and dance-infused compositions of his middle and later years.
While the Fountain of Tears bubbles before him, Giray, khan of the Tatars, is lost in brooding. Just as the flow from the marble fount cannot be exhausted, his own sorrow will never diminish, either. The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
