Szinopszis:
Kapcsolatainkban szerepeket játszunk, amelyek számunkra előnyösek. De vajon meddig kényelmes egy szerep és mikor válik önmagunk számára is terhessé? Csalódni valakiben fájdalmas dolog. De vajon nem azért csalódunk, mert olyan tulajdonságokkal ruháztuk fel a másik embert, melyek csak a képzeletünkben éltek? A másik embert miért nem akarjuk igazán megismerni és olyannak látni, amilyen, azért szeretni, amilyen? Miért alkotunk skatulyákat, amikbe belegyömöszöljük és bezárjuk? Vagy éppen önmagunkat zárjuk ketrecbe, amikor lefektetjük egy kapcsolat szabályait? Ha egy nő otthagyja a családját, hogy rátaláljon önmagára, az helyeselhető individualizmus, botrányos feminizmus, vagy felelőtlen önzés? Az, hogy korábban idillinek tartotta házasságát, az naivitás, vagy az önérdek kényelmessége?

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
Henry Purcell’s epic masterpiece, Dido and Aeneas has to do with the Trojan War. But what is even more important than the historical background of this hour-long little gem is love – as Dóra Barta, the director of the production highlights it, “Humanity has long known that if there is something you can die of, Love is certainly such a thing.
