Színházat csinálni azt jelenti: élni. Nagy szavak, de 1944-ben, a budapesti gettó egyik épületének pincéjében szó szerint kell érteni. Miért csinál 5 zsidó gyerek előadást a Velencei kalmárból, mikor azt se tudják, másnap élni fognak-e még? Miért csinálnak a Fővárosi Kefe- és Seprűgyártó Vállalat alkalmazottai 1989-ben előadást a Velencei kalmárból - és főleg: kinek? Mi változott 45 év alatt? Megöregedtek. Megöregedtünk.

“Ha megszúrtok, nem vérzünk-e, ha csiklandotok, nem nevetünk-e? ha megmérgeztek, nem halunk-e meg? s ha bántotok, ne álljunk-e bosszút?”
Ha odakinn dübörög a történelem, nekünk van-e jogunk itt a színházban “játszani”? Mi a színház dolga, amikor a nagypolitika, a háború, a sors, és leginkább az emberi kegyetlenség és árulás az életünkre tör? Mit csináljon az a zsidó, aki nem akar bosszút, nem akar visszaszúrni, nem akar semmit, csak azt, amit mindenki más: boldognak lenni. Hova tűnnek a fiatalkori álmaink és vágyaink? A világ tehet arról, ha nem valósítjuk meg őket, vagy mi magunk?
És meddig hihetjük, hogy nemsokára mindannyian boldogok lehetünk egy szabad világban?

Our offer
There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English. To request a tour in other languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, Greece and Hungarian), please get in touch with the OperaTour team. Please note that the auditorium is closed for visits during rehearsals. Guided tours are not available during performances. For selected tour times, tickets are also available with the PreOpera Menu package. In addition to the guided tour of the Opera House, this option includes a themed set menu of your choice at OperaBistro, which can be enjoyed either before or after the tour.
János Hunyadi is responsible for the tolling of bells around the world; Mátyás Hunyadi is the hero of a string of folk tales; László Hunyadi inspired “only” an opera.
