Feltétel persze, hogy csak egyetlen fia legyen, hogy egyben maradhasson a vagyon. És ekkor sorjázni kezdenek az egymásra feltűnően hasonlító Hickory Wood-ok… a szégyenlős Billy, a dadogós Rupert – utóbbi még állapotos feleségétől is kísérten -, a szélhámos Michael, az álhatatlan francia, Pierre, és a tisztelt gyülekezet csak kapkodja a fejét: hogy lehet egy apának ennyi fia?!
