Erika Náray and special guest: Miklós Lukács

Erika Náray and special guest: Miklós Lukács

Given that this Prima Prize-winning cimbalom musician considers himself partly a jazz musician, it should come as no surprise to learn he is a huge jazz fan. It will certainly be exciting to learn about Miklós Lukács's genuine points of connection to jazz in this musical conversation with Erika Náray, especially as Lukács's instrument is far from a typical presence in either the past or present of the genre.

Miklós Lukács first joined Charles Lloyd's touring band many years ago, helping to earn further major recognition for Hungarian jazz. Though he can also be extraordinarily proud of the other stations of his career, too. At just 11 years of age, he played a solo concert at a gala event for UNICEF in Brussels, and has since performed as a soloist alongside orchestras of the calibre of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Remix Ensemble, the Israel Contemporary Players, the Ensemble Musikfabrik, the Ligeti Ensemble, the UMZE Chamber Ensemble and the THReNSeMBle. He has been asked to perform the works of György Kurtág and Péter Eötvös, while alongside Eötvös, Máté Bella, Kornél Fekete-Kovács, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Kálmán Oláh, Kristóf Bacsó, György Vukán and Mihály Borbély have all written concertos with him in mind. In addition to Charles Lloyd, Lukács has also worked along jazz stars such as Archie Shepp, Steve Coleman, Bill Frisell, Chris Potter, Uri Caine and Frank London. His play can be heard on more than 50 records, a third of which are his own productions. Lukács founded his own trio, Cimbiózis, in 2013, with György Orbán on double bass and István Baló on drums.

Audience members, who can take their seats at the Bohemian Event Venue from 6 pm, receive a welcome drink and can enjoy dinner before or after the concert.
