„Korábban azt mondták, Moses Mendelssohn fia, most meg úgy emlegetnek, hogy Felix Mendelssohn apja.” – zsörtölődött Abraham Mendelssohn, aki egészen különleges otthont varázsolt gyermekeinek, Fannynak, Felixnek, Rebeckának és Paulnak. Nem a szokatlan anyagi jólétről van szó, hanem arról a kulturális, szellemi gazdagságról, amelynek gyökerei egyrészt Moses Mendelssohn filozófusig, másrészt pedig anyai ágon egészen a Bach családig nyúlnak vissza. A gyermekek, főként Fanny és Felix levelein, barátok és kortársak visszaemlékezésein, valamint Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy művein keresztül láthatunk bele abba a világba, amelyben a kor leghíresebb muzsikusai mellett olyan nagyságok nevei tűnnek föl, mint Wilhelm von Humboldt, Friedrich Schlegel, Wilhelm Hensel, vagy éppen Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.

A 60-minute tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 in English.
