Kesselyák Gergely a miskolci „Bartók +” elnevezésű operafesztivál igazgatójaként került kapcsolatba Alekszej Ribnyikov orosz zeneszerzővel. Az 1945-ös születésű komponista Hacsaturján tanítványa volt, több mint száz filmhez írt zenét, és hatalmas energiával küzdött azért, hogy a musical és a rockopera műfaja Oroszországban is meghonosodjon.

Tolsztoj nyomán nagyszabású színpadi művet komponált a borogyinói csata 200. évfordulójára. Nemcsak film-, illetve színpadi zenék szerzőjeként ismert, hanem hangszeres műveket is komponál. Capriccio című kompozíciója előtt Csajkovszkij egyik ritkán hallott műve, az eredetileg hegedű-zongora darabként fogant Egy kedves hely emléke szólal meg zenekari változatban, a koncert második felében pedig Liszt Ferenc egyik legnagyobb szabású zenekari műve, a Dante-szimfónia lesz hallható.
