Hát, tudják kegyelmetek, hogy Mátyás király, akit úgy hívtak, hogy „Mátyás, az igazságos”, sokszor megfordult a nép között, s ilyenkor aztán megkérdezte a szegény emberektől, hogy hát hogy is megy dolguk. Miből élnek? Aztán meg azt is megkérdezte, mit csinál a falu bírája meg a nótárius. De aztán jaj is volt ám annak a bírónak vagy nótáriusnak, akit hamisságon ért, mert azt tüstént elcsapta!
Hát egyszer, amint így járt kint a nép között, hogy hol, hol nem, én bizony magam sem tudom, mert még akkor talán a világon sem voltam, hanem hát elég az ahhoz, hogy beténfergett egy vén cigányasszonyhoz, aki éppen kártyát vetett a kuckóban.
