Török Péter a hatalmas birtokkal hatalmas adósságokat is örökölt, így kénytelen elárvereztetni azt. Az új tulajdonos a gazdag, szép és fiatal Marica grófnő tiszttartónak véli az exbirtokos fiatalembert, aki vállalja is e szerepet, belemegy a játékba; nem sejtve, hogy birtoka után a szíve is Maricáé lesz. Kálmán Imre egyik legsikeresebb és leghíresebb operettje a Marica grófnő.
