A zenés játék azt a Lehár Ferencet mutatja meg, aki, bár három évtizeden át ünnepelte Európa, sikerei ellenére sem találta helyét a világban. A hazáját, boldogságát és önmagát kereső embert, a Monarchia gyermekét, akit német–magyar–cseh származása, a Komárom–Prága–Bécs–Budapest tengelyen zajló élete Közép-Európához kapcsolt. Lehár a ’30-as évek közepétől úgy érezte: nemcsak első sikereinek közege mállott szét körülötte, de a klasszikus operett is végnapjait éli.
