A történet New York-ban játszódik.
A kortárs amerikai szerző, Terrence McNally feszes, szellemes, de ugyanakkor mélyen elgondolkodtató darabja 1987-ben debütált Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune címmel.
A színpadi változatból 1991-ben Krumplirózsa címmel nagy sikerű film is készült Al Pacinóval és Michelle Pfeifferrel a főszerepben, majd a darabot több évadon át műsorra tűzték a new york-i Broadwayn, és Tony díjra is jelölték.
A Thália Színház új bemutatóját a sikeres hazai filmeket jegyző Goda Kriszta rendezi, alkotótársa ezúttal is Divinyi Réka forgatókönyvíró.
