Karinthy szerint a kabaréjelenet különleges kis műfajocska, amely örökérvényűen fejezi ki az életet. Egy „cseppecske dráma” csupán, de dráma, mert bármennyire mulatságos, sőt röhögtető, komolyan kell venni. S ha komolyan vesszük, nem is kell okvetlenül kapcsolatban lennie a napi eseményekkel. Az ő jelenetei, humoreszkjei, kupléi éppen ezért mindmáig aktuálisak. Amit a szerelemről, a házastársi kapcsolatról, a dilettánsokról és a sznobokról, a nagyképűségről, a pénzről, a politikáról és a hatalom természetéről csaknem száz éve írt, ma is időszerű.
