Az 1938-ban írt amerikai dráma „csupán” egy levélváltás két barát között. E leveleket Los Angelesben, illetve Németországban írják 1932 -34 között.
A két barát egyike Eisenstein, a német-zsidó amerikai képkereskedő, a másik meg egykori üzlettársa, Schulse, aki 1932-ben visszatér Németországba.
A levélváltás megmutatja, miként zúz szét egy barátságot a XX. század legsötétebb időszaka. Eisenstein a leveleivel bizonyítja, hogy a náci
