Mindenki sikít a hullámvasúton, zeng a sördal, szól a sramli és a valcer – a müncheni Oktoberfesten. Mindenki szállni mulatni, felejteni akar. Az 1929-es gazdasági világválság milliók egzisztenciáját sodorta veszélybe, ki tudja mit hoz a holnap. Kasimir éppen elvesztette a munkáját, Karoline pedig mintha túlságosan is sokfelé nézelődne a vásárban. Ahogy az este éjszakába vált, a szerelmesek elveszítik egymást, a piti bűnözők, élveteg milliomosok és széplelkű torzszülöttek részeg forgatagában...
Ödön von Horváth sírnivalóan gyönyörű népszínműve aktuálisabb, mint valaha.
