A darab az örök keresésről és az öregség élményéről szól. Egy fiatalember vándorol, egyik faluból a másikba, egyik híres rabbitól a másikhoz, keresi a mesterét, aki megmutatja neki a helyes utat ebben a zűrzavaros, ijesztő világban. Minden rabbitól tanul valami fontosat, az egyiktől nevetni, a másiktól enni, a harmadiktól megbékélni az ösztöneivel, a negyediktől csalódni, az ötödiktől megrészegedni, a hatodiktól a békességet – mindenkitől tanul valamit, de a mesterét nem találja meg. Egészen addig keres, egy egész életen keresztül, mániákusan, amíg valaki őbenne találja meg a mesterét. Hogyan lett ő a mester – hogyan lett fiatalból öreg, azt ő se tudja, mi se értjük – csak megtörtént.
