Főhősünk egy lány: Kármen, aki szabadnak született és úgy is hal meg. „Hatalmas szemei voltak. Szépen íveltek, feketék. Tökéletes bőre olyan volt, mint a réz; az ajka kicsit erős, de szép vonalú, mely látni engedte fogait, amik oly fehérek voltak, mint a hámozott mandula. Szinte túl sok haja volt, fekete, ami kékben játszott, mint a holló szárnya. Meglepő, vad szépség volt, akit ki egyszer látott, soha nem felejtett el. De főként a tekintete...érzéki és vad tekintete...
Kétszer szúrtam meg. A második után némán esett össze. Még mindig látom a nagy szemeit, ahogyan rám néztek. Ahogy elhomályosultak és lecsukódtak.”

There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
