Kálmán a nehezebb utat választotta: Amerikába emigrált. Kálmán sose akart nősülni. Ennek ellenére kétszer is feleségül vette a nála évtizedekkel fiatalabb, Szibériában született fiatal Verát. Ma sem telik el olyan óra, hogy valahol a nagyvilágban ne csendülne fel egy–egy Kálmán-melódia.
