Kakuk Marci állástalan kültelki amorózó, piaci polgár, a csavargóélet született arisztokratája, imádják a nők, mert stílusa van. Folyton pénztelen, nincs munkája se lakhelye, egyik napról a másikra él. Mégis tele van jókedvvel, optimizmussal, igazi népi hős, a groteszk fajtából. Tréfás szélhámos ő, akinek mindig szerencséje van, a nála butábbakon diadalt arat, az élet nagy csatáiban azonban rendre alulmarad.
Marci kalandjai során rátalál az igaz szerelemre is, végül helyette a szabadságot és a pénzt választja, mindig a "mások fészkét", ahonnan kitaszítják, vagy magától továbbszáll…
