Mégis meddig mehetünk el a hazugságban? Mi lesz, ha már lassan magunk sem tudjuk, kinek mit adtunk be? Julian, a fogorvos például jól kitalálta az életét. A rendelőben a fegyelmezett Stephanie tartja kézben a dolgait, a magánéletben a csinos Toni gondoskodik róla. És hogy ne kelljen elköteleződnie, családot hazudik magának. Amikor viszont mégis nősülne, Toni hallani sem akar róla, hogy miatta szakadjon szét egy család. Meg kell tehát győzni őt, hogy a "feleség" boldog, ha megszabadulhat Julian-től. De honnan kerítsen egy nőt, aki hajlandó eljátszani a szerepet?

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.
