A Marica grófnő egy ismert és népszerű slágerekkel teli szerelmes zenés vígjáték. A történetben: gróf Endrődy-Wittenberg Tasziló vagyonát elveszítve szégyenében Erdélybe menekül, majd beáll a Decsényiek ősi birtokán gazdatisztnek, Török Béla álnéven. Amikor hazaér Bécsből a birtok úrnője, Marica, félve a hozományvadászoktól, azt mondja magáról, hogy ő Zsupán Kálmán báró jegyese. Ők ketten persze egymásba szeretnek, mely hatalmas szerelmi bonyodalmakat okoz. Az operettben olyan dalok csendülnek fel, mint a Szép város Kolozsvár, a Hej, cigány, a Szent Habakuk, a Ringó vállú csengeri violám... Méltán az egyik legizgalmasabb, legkeresettebb, legkülönlegesebb zenés vígjáték.

As it is a latent Kodály season, it seems only fitting that the concert at the OPERA honouring the events of 1956 should feature works by the composer. In that same year, the short-lived Revolutionary Council of Hungarian Intellectuals elected him as its president. Throughout his entire oeuvre, Kodály consistently reinforced Hungarian national identity. The programme gains both colour and a ceremonial character from the hymn-like and dance-infused compositions of his middle and later years.
